me @ 13...excerpt of my journal back then
"To find one's true identity is a very stressful task. It can help one on the road to success in life.
Everyday as I become older I resolve into the essence that I most truly am. I am imbued with my identity through my perception of life. In my younger years, my days swept by like a song in the wind and though my life was filled with the uttmost glee, I was incapable of discovering life's meaning.
The world envisions my future as being one of enduring times, extreme struggles and endless grey skies. Why grow up if my future is defined as one that won't appreciate? In reality I refuse to allow my life to be dictated by how they feel. I refuse to base my life on yesterdays and tomorrows no matter how ecstatic they may seem. Instead I will live for the present day. Everything I do in the present day will eventually become my yesterdays and will encourage me to to do better for the day ahead, my tomorrow. I will always live for the present and not the "what have's" and "what will's".
Indeed, as a young child, I was ultimately free of worries and had not a a care in the world. I fluttered through years self indulged and unaware of what life truly had to offer. Ignorance begets bliss and living a care-free life is unrealistic. If we were to remain children forever because we want to always remain content we would not be able to survive the struggles of our modern world.
Dwelling on the past and fearing what lies ahead in the future will not make the world a better place. It will only create a nightmare. Growing up expands our horizons and by doing so we cannot be afraid to face that which we can change through strength and perseverance. Life is certainly tough and no doubt has its downfalls but however we must learn to hold our heads high and push our way through.
Maturing into a responsible adult is a challenge. In order to make life bearable it is expected that we overcome certain obstacles. Although a pampered babe's life is a perfect example of supreme earthly serenity we must come to the realization that it is the choices that we make that determines how we will feel in this world we call our earthly home."
